Village Pizza Background and history
In Anacortes, Jackson Funeral Home was located at 807 Commercial Road. The only funeral home in the city until 1934 was Haugen’s Funeral Home. Groven Mortuary opened the same year. In 1937, Harry D. Jackson bought the mortuary. As a funeral director and embalmer, he provided ambulance services. Jackson operated the funeral home until 1954. Several vehicles and the garage were destroyed by a fire on June 26, 1952. Jackson’s Funeral Home is housed in the J. W. Brown Building. Until 1977, the company was known as Bryson Engdahl Mortuary. Village Pizza still operates in the building today.
