Longhorns Menu Steakhouse was founded in 1981 in Atlanta, Georgia, by two best friends, Brian and George McKerrow Jr. The first restaurant opened in an old antique store, and many people visited for a steak after a night out. In 1982, a heavy snowstorm called SnowJam 82 hit the city. Afterward, Longhorn expanded throughout the South and Eastern U.S. by 1990. In August 2007, Darden Restaurants, Inc. bought Longhorn Steakhouse owned by RARE Hospitality International, Inc. At that point, Longhorn Steakhouse had around 500 locations worldwide.
