Description

These Easy Garlic Mashed Potatoes are creamy, fluffy, and packed with roasted garlic flavor. A perfect side dish for holiday feasts or everyday dinners, they pair wonderfully with meats, gravies, and vegetable dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds (900g) potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet), peeled and cubed

  • 4 cloves garlic, peeled

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • ½ cup milk (warm, more if needed)

  • ¼ cup sour cream (optional, for creaminess)

  • Salt, to taste

  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • Fresh chives or parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. Boil Potatoes & Garlic:
Place potatoes and garlic cloves in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add salt. Bring to a boil and cook for 15–20 minutes, until potatoes are fork-tender.

2. Drain & Mash:
Drain well and return potatoes and garlic to the pot. Mash until smooth.

3. Add Creaminess:
Mix in butter, warm milk, and sour cream (if using). Stir until creamy and fluffy. Adjust with extra milk if needed.

4. Season & Serve:
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve warm.

Notes

Make Ahead: Prepare up to 2 days in advance. Reheat on the stovetop with a splash of milk to restore creaminess.

Variations: Use roasted garlic for a sweeter, deeper flavor. Replace sour cream with cream cheese for extra richness.

Serving Suggestions: Serve alongside roast chicken, turkey, steak, or holiday mains with gravy.

Storage Tips: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat with butter or milk.
