As a family, we visited China Barrhead in 2007, where locals consumed whole chickens, leaving behind their combs and feet. Invaders were kept at bay by walking along the China Wall. Markets, full of vibrant sights and sounds, were a highlight of the trip. I skipped the 100-year-old egg after my uncle jokingly warned us not to try it if we misbehaved. I would have avoided the cocoons if they were alive if we visited a silk-making factory.
